Design Manager – Building Services / M&E

Location: Woking, Surrey
Salary: £95,000 – £105,000 per annum
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Manager to join a leading UK Facilities Management and Engineering Services provider based in Woking.

This is a senior-level position, offering the opportunity to manage and oversee the design and technical delivery of complex Mechanical, Electrical and Building Services projects.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background in M&E engineering, with proven experience managing multidisciplinary design teams, consultants and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design process for complex M&E and Building Services projects from concept through to completion.
• Coordinate internal engineering teams, external consultants, subcontractors and specialist design partners.
• Review and approve technical drawings, specifications, design submissions and engineering documentation.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant UK building regulations, British Standards, CDM requirements and client specifications.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Technical Managers and operational teams to ensure efficient project delivery.
• Identify and resolve design risks, technical challenges and coordination issues throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage design programmes, budgets and technical deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time.
• Lead design reviews, value engineering exercises and technical meetings with clients and key stakeholders.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Design Manager, MEP Design Manager or Senior Design Engineer within Building Services, M&E or Construction.
• Strong technical understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and complex engineering projects.
• Excellent knowledge of UK building regulations, CDM regulations and relevant engineering standards.
• Ability to interpret and review technical drawings, specifications and design documentation.
• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working with major contractors, engineering consultancies or Facilities Management providers.

Desirable Qualifications

• Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership.
• Membership of CIBSE, IET or another recognised engineering institution.
• Experience using BIM, AutoCAD, Revit or similar design software.
• Previous experience delivering high-value or technically complex M&E projects.
