An established Building Services contractor is looking for a Lead / Approved Electrician to join its electrical delivery team, working on installations within defence and secure government environments.

You will join experienced engineers and Project Managers in a business where practical knowledge, teamwork and good workmanship are valued. This is an opportunity to remain hands-on while helping organise installations, supporting less experienced colleagues and taking responsibility for the quality of the finished work.

For an Approved Electrician who enjoys varied, technically interesting installations, the role offers specialist projects, paid door-to-door travel and overtime, with no domestic work or on-call rota.

The Opportunity

As Lead / Approved Electrician, you will combine electrical installation, inspection and testing with the day-to-day coordination of work on your allocated projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Installing and modifying low-voltage electrical systems, controls and associated equipment.
• Working on electrical installations, upgrades and associated building services work within operational defence facilities and secure government environments.
• Interpreting drawings, specifications and installation requirements.
• Organising daily activities and supporting electricians, apprentices and other team members.
• Carrying out inspection, testing, certification and associated remedial work.
• Coordinating material requirements and reporting progress or site issues.
• Maintaining safe working practices, accurate records and clear communication with other trades.

You will work closely with Project Managers and supervisors, helping take installations from initial site activities through to testing and completion. There will also be opportunities to contribute practical information to site surveys and quotations.

About You

You will be an experienced Approved Electrician with strong installation and testing skills, comfortable taking responsibility for your work and working collaboratively with others.

We are looking for:

• NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation.
• AM2 and a recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent qualification pathway.
• A valid ECS grade card and Level 3 Inspection and Testing qualification.
• Electrical installation experience in non-domestic environments.
• Sound knowledge of BS 7671, electrical drawings and safe working practices.
• A full driving licence and willingness to travel and work away.

Previous experience leading electrical work or supervising a small team would be useful. Experienced Approved Electricians ready to take on greater responsibility are also encouraged to apply.

Location and Working Arrangements

The company is based in South Hampshire, and applications are welcomed from electricians in Portsmouth and the surrounding area.

This is a mobile role involving projects across the UK, working away where required and occasional overseas assignments. Applicants should be comfortable with these arrangements. Travel and working-away expectations will be discussed during an initial conversation.
