Job description

A Foundations Design Manager required for a major Offshore Wind farm developer based in The UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the Primary Steel Lead, Secondary Steel Lead and Pin Pile Design Engineer and maintain the integrated design management plan, review strategy and programme through AFC delivery.
  • Own coordination and configuration control of the overall foundation Design Basis, ensuring discipline inputs are complete, compatible and controlled.
  • Own the integrated design decision log, risk and opportunity register, interface register and certification tracker, ensuring actions are allocated, updated and closed.
  • Manage the technical delivery of the design and certification contracts, including technical scope, schedule, quality, risk, interfaces and resource adequacy; monitor cost and change and provide timely technical input to the Foundations Package Manager and Contract Manager.
  • Act as the day-to-day employer counterpart to the Detailed Designer and Certification Body project managers, consolidate review comments and drive critical comments and certification blockers to closure.
  • Be accountable for integrated loads analysis governance, programme and interface resolution, with the Primary Steel Lead responsible for technical coordination, review and employer acceptance recommendations.
  • Coordinate Safe by Design, constructability and model reviews and ensure required inputs from WTG, supply and fabrication, transport and installation, IAC, O&M, HSSE, metocean and site characterisation are available when needed.
  • Ensure safety is prioritised in the foundations design, in particular through adherence to the Design Hazard Management Plan.
  • Ensure discipline interfaces are identified, allocated and closed in a timely manner and before they affect design maturity, fabrication or installation.
  • Ensure design deliverables reach the required maturity, obtain employer acceptance and progress through certification in accordance with the agreed plan.
  • Exercise sound engineering judgement, communicate uncertainty transparently and escalate material risks early while retaining clear ownership and traceable decisions.

Requirements:

  • Substantial multidisciplinary offshore foundation design and design-management experience, preferably including fixed offshore wind jacket foundations and pin piles.
  • Demonstrable experience leading employer-side detailed design, certification and multidisciplinary technical interfaces on a major offshore project.
  • Strong working knowledge of design assurance, Certification Body processes, engineering change control, technical contract management and AFC delivery.
  • Experience coordinating integrated loads analysis and interfaces with WTG, geotechnical, fabrication, transport and installation disciplines.
  • Ability to interrogate multidisciplinary calculations, models, drawings and technical reports and distinguish material risks from routine comments.
  • Strong stakeholder management, planning, written communication, decision-making and action-close-out capability.
  • Able to act as an informed employer representative without duplicating or relieving the Detailed Designer of design responsibility.
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or demonstrable equivalent professional competence, is preferred.
