Our client, a growing waste and recycling business, is looking for an HGV Class 2 Driver to collect and deliver materials from customer sites across mainland UK. You’ll receive training and support to develop your skills while helping recover valuable resources and protect the environment.

The role

As an HGV Class 2 Driver, you’ll collect and deliver waste materials, including batteries, oil, filters and plastics. You’ll represent our client at customer premises, providing a professional service and ensuring collections and deliveries are completed safely.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Safely loading, securing, transporting and unloading waste materials.
• Completing daily vehicle checks and reporting defects promptly.
• Keeping your vehicle clean and well maintained.
• Following drivers’ hours, tachograph, Working Time Directive and applicable ADR requirements.
• Helping customers understand waste storage requirements and passing new service requirements to your manager.
• Following company and customer site health and safety procedures.
• Reporting hazards, incidents and near misses promptly.

The role normally involves 1–3 overnight stays per week, depending on operational requirements. Additional nights may be available if preferred.

What we’re looking for

• A valid HGV Class 2 / Category C driving licence.
• A good driving record. Ideally, you’ll have no more than three penalty points, although up to six may be considered depending on the offence. Mobile phone offences cannot be accepted.
• Good knowledge of mainland UK roads and the Highway Code.
• An understanding of drivers’ hours, tachograph regulations, the Working Time Directive and Operator Licence obligations.
• A professional, safety-conscious approach.
• Good communication, organisation and time management skills.
• Confidence dealing with customers and resolving day-to-day issues.
• Flexibility to undertake overnight stays.

Experience in waste or recycling would be an advantage. ADR certification is desirable, but full training and funding can be provided for the right candidate.
