Job description

Job Description:

HGV Drainage Engineer

Location: Manchester

Salary: £37,500 rising to £39,500 after probation and up to £42,000 with ADR qualification.

Hours: 45 hours per week, typically 6am–4pm, Monday to Friday.

Overtime: £225 per day for Saturday and Sunday, plus a £50 bonus for working both days.

Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays.

The Role

We're looking for an HGV driver who enjoys a mix of driving and hands-on outdoor work to join a specialist drainage services team.

The role involves operating tanker vehicles, high-pressure jetting, drain cleaning and interceptor servicing at petrol forecourts, distribution centres and commercial sites.

You'll spend around 25–50% of your time driving, with the remainder working on-site. Occasional overnight stays may be required, with accommodation and subsistence provided.

What We're Looking For

  • Valid UK HGV Category C+E licence and clean driving record.
  • Previous tanker experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Trade, engineering, drainage or maintenance experience would be advantageous.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and behind the wheel.
  • Strong health and safety awareness.
  • Flexible approach to travel and operational call-outs.
  • Willingness to gain or renew ADR and other relevant qualifications.

Candidates with a current, valid ADR qualification may be eligible to start on £42,000. Where ADR needs renewing, salary progression can be up to £42,000 following probation, subject to agreed terms.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary progression from £37,500 to up to £42,000.
  • £225 per day for Saturday and Sunday overtime.
  • An additional £50 bonus for working both weekend days.
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Funded training and relevant industry qualifications, including ADR.
  • A varied role combining professional driving and practical site work.
  • Company-funded overnight accommodation and subsistence when required.
  • Flexible call-out arrangements around operational requirements.

Regular drug and alcohol testing applies.
