Job Description:
Passionate SEN Tutors Wanted in Sittingbourne and Surrounding Areas
Pay: £27/hour (QTS) | £25/hour (Non-QTS)
Bonus: For every 5th hour worked, enjoy an extra hour's pay for planning and preparation!
Tradewind Recruitment is seeking experienced and compassionate professionals to deliver personalised intervention sessions for students who are currently without a formal school placement. These students will have Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) and may need additional support to meet their unique learning and developmental goals.
Our ongoing roles offer flexibility-whether you'd like to support multiple learners or work consistently with one student until they transition to a full-time setting. Work part-time or full-time-whatever suits your availability. The tuition takes place term time, during school hours.
Your Role as an SEN Tutor
- Provide one-to-one, needs-based tuition sessions.
- Support students' academic progress and personal development, always working towards the targets on their EHCP.
- Adapt teaching strategies to address individual learning challenges.
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons in both English and Maths.
- Collaborate closely with parents, carers, and external professionals.
- Keep accurate records of student progress and attendance.
What We're Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) OR extensive experience planning and delivering one-to-one tuition to children and young people with Special Educational Needs.
- Strong understanding of EHCPs and how to deliver targeted interventions.
- The ability to independently plan and deliver lessons in both English and Maths.
- Excellent communication skills and a supportive, patient approach.
- A genuine passion for helping students succeed.
- A flexible and adaptable teaching style to meet individual learning needs.
How It Works
Receiving a Referral
Kent and Medway Councils refer children who are educated outside of school (EOTAS) or who have been permanently excluded. Tuition is provided on an interim basis while a suitable school placement is sought.
- Kent referrals are typically 10 hours per week, with payment for 12 hours to allow for planning and preparation.
- Medway referrals are typically 15 hours per week, with payment for 18 hours.
Matching You to a Student
Once a referral is received, we'll send you all available information, including the EHCP where possible. If you feel the placement is suitable, we'll speak with the parent or carer to explain the tuition process and gather any additional information not included in the referral.
Once we have gathered all relevant information, we'll ensure the proposed timetable works around your availability. You'll then introduce yourself to the family and arrange the first session.
Delivering Tuition
- Sessions are usually delivered in the family home or in a public setting such as a library.
- An appropriate adult must always be present during home-based sessions.
- Following every session, whether it takes place or not, you'll complete a Daily Feedback Form outlining attendance, lesson objectives, progress and session duration.
- Feedback forms are extremely important and must be completed on the same day for safeguarding and council reporting purposes.
Pay and Planning Time
- QTS Tutors: £27 per hour.
- Non-QTS Tutors: £25 per hour.
- For every hour taught, you'll receive an additional 12 minutes' pay to cover planning and preparation.
- This means a 10-hour referral is paid as 12 hours, while a 15-hour referral is paid as 18 hours.
