Job description

Mechanical Project Manager | M&E Building Services | South Hampshire | £70,000–£80,000 + Car or £6,000 Car Allowance + Christmas Bonus + Employee Shares

Family-Run Business | Collaborative Team | £100k–£1.5m Projects | Working Closely with Directors

An established, family-run M&E Building Services contractor is looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to take ownership of projects and play a key role in its delivery team.

This is an opportunity to join a friendly, collaborative business where people work closely together, share ideas and genuinely enjoy what they do. You will work directly with the Directors, benefiting from their experience and support while having the autonomy to manage your own projects and make decisions.

The company has recently moved into brand-new offices with a welcoming, homely feel. Combined with employee share participation, a Christmas bonus and genuine career progression opportunities, this offers an attractive environment for someone looking to make a long-term contribution.

The business delivers mechanical, electrical and public health installations across commercial offices, hotels, education, healthcare and residential developments, including new-build, refurbishment and fit-out projects.

Typical project values range from approximately £100,000 to £1.5 million, covering both fully specified and Design & Build contracts.

The Opportunity

As Mechanical Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the technical, operational and commercial delivery of your allocated projects, working closely with the Operations Director.

The company is looking for someone who can confidently take ownership of project delivery, combining strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness, structured planning and practical leadership.

You will understand that every project needs to be managed as a business in its own right, with responsibility for programme, expenditure, profitability and client satisfaction.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing mechanical projects from pre-construction and mobilisation through to commissioning and handover.
  • Planning project programmes, labour resources, procurement and installation activities.
  • Coordinating technical drawings, specifications and design requirements.
  • Managing subcontractors, suppliers and site teams to maintain progress and installation quality.
  • Monitoring budgets, committed costs and expenditure, identifying commercial risks and protecting profitability.
  • Managing variations and supporting valuations, financial reporting and final accounts.
  • Maintaining positive working relationships with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
  • Overseeing health and safety, project documentation, commissioning and handover requirements.

This is a hands-on management position combining regular site involvement with office-based planning, coordination and commercial responsibilities.

You will be trusted to manage your projects independently while maintaining close communication with the Directors and wider delivery team.

About You

You will be an established Mechanical Project Manager or Mechanical Contracts Manager with recent experience delivering Mechanical Building Services projects and taking responsibility for their commercial performance.

We are looking for:

  • Proven experience managing mechanical installations within an M&E or Mechanical Building Services contractor.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services installations and associated project requirements.
  • Experience delivering projects of comparable value and complexity.
  • Sound commercial awareness, including procurement, costs, variations and profitability.
  • A structured, organised approach to planning, reporting and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Confidence leading site teams, coordinating subcontractors and maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Willingness to travel and a genuine enjoyment of working both on site and in the office.

You should be comfortable making decisions, resolving technical and commercial challenges and taking responsibility for project outcomes.

Just as importantly, you will be approachable, collaborative and keen to contribute to a positive working environment.

What's on Offer?

  • £70,000–£80,000 basic salary, reflective of experience and seniority.
  • Company car or £6,000 car allowance.
  • Christmas bonus.
  • Employee share participation.
  • Brand-new offices with a welcoming, homely atmosphere.
  • Friendly, supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Direct access to the Directors and involvement in key project decisions.
  • Genuine career progression opportunities and scope to take on broader responsibility.

The company is based in South Hampshire, with projects across the South Coast, Home Counties and Greater London.

The role combines regular office attendance with travel to project sites, providing the opportunity to remain closely involved in both the operational and commercial aspects of project delivery.
