£35,000 – £40,000 | Monday to Friday | 8am–4:30pm | Rochester, Kent
Enjoy stripping machinery down, finding out what's wrong with it and putting it back together again?
If you're the sort of engineer who genuinely enjoys getting your hands dirty, taking things apart, figuring out why they've failed and then repairing them, this could be right up your street.
And if you're currently working in manufacturing, dealing with constant production pressures, breakdowns and people breathing down your neck to get machines running again, you might particularly like this one.
We're working with an established engineering business in Rochester that's been operating for 35 years, specialising in the repair and refurbishment of hydraulic and mechanical equipment.
So, what's the opportunity?
Firstly, it's £35,000–£40,000, working Monday to Friday, 8am–4:30pm.
No rotating shifts. No nights. No weekends as part of your normal working week.
But what makes this opportunity attractive is the working environment.
You'll have your own workspace where you'll be trusted to get on with the job without someone constantly looking over your shoulder.
The work itself is varied. One day you could be stripping down a hydraulic cylinder, the next investigating a failed gearbox, pump or another piece of heavy mechanical equipment.
You'll be identifying faults, assessing damage, repairing or replacing components and rebuilding equipment ready to go back into service.
It's proper, hands-on mechanical engineering.
Why might you want to work here?
Unlike a busy manufacturing environment where everything needs fixing yesterday, this is a more relaxed, workshop-based setting.
You'll have the time and freedom to investigate problems properly and take pride in the work you're doing.
It's also a smaller, well-established business where people tend to stick around. Several members of the team have been there for over 10 years, which says something about the working environment.
And although hydraulic experience would be useful, you don't necessarily need to have worked specifically with hydraulics before.
If you've got a strong mechanical background, enjoy stripping and rebuilding machinery and are willing to learn, the business is happy to develop your skills.
What sort of background would suit?
You might currently be working as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Engineer, Hydraulic Fitter, Plant Fitter or Mechanical Technician.
What's important is that you're mechanically minded, comfortable using tools and genuinely enjoy understanding how things work.
You don't need electrical experience. This is a mechanical role through and through.
Worth a conversation?
If you're fed up with the pressure of manufacturing, want to get away from shifts, or simply enjoy mechanical engineering and would prefer somewhere you're trusted to get on with your work, this could be worth considering.
£35,000–£40,000. Monday to Friday days. A relaxed workshop environment and plenty of mechanical variety.
